This paper reviews some of the biochemical and metabolic aspects of adipose tissue and its relationship to inflammatory disease and insulin resistance. Over the last decades there has been considerable accumulation of experimental data about the biology and biochemistry of adipose tissue. Several studies have evidenced that adipose tissue is not uniform.
